1. Top (Jacket)
Design: The top of the Judo gi is a thick, robust jacket with long sleeves and a relatively loose fit. Unlike Karate or Taekwondo gis, which have a V-neck, the Judo gi jacket has a more simple, straight-cut front that wraps around the body and ties with a belt.
Material: The jacket is made from a heavy, durable cotton or a cotton-blend fabric. This material is specifically chosen to handle the wear and tear of gripping and throwing. Some higher-end gis may use canvas or thicker cotton to provide extra durability.
Fit: The sleeves are typically long and slightly wider than those of a Karate gi, and they are designed to withstand repeated gripping and pulling by an opponent. The body of the jacket is also cut wider to allow ease of movement during throws, grips, and ground techniques.
